doll details

Dolls are mirrors of children’s souls and reflect their heartstrings like no other toy – this is probably the reason why they have a long and meaningful history and can be found in cultures all over the world. While playing children learn how to deal with reality and are able to develop their own identity.  Because they play such an important role in children’s lives it is my utmost concern to create dolls that inspire children’s fantasy and accompany them on their way through childhood.
The aspect of creating sustainable and eco-friendly products is also very important to me. For this reason I only use natural material of the highest quality for my dolls and their clothes.  The Swiss tricot and wool for stuffing, hair and eyes is organic as well as the thread I use for all seams.

All my dolls are made in my little home studio and I always start with neddle felting a head. This is when the whole character of a doll starts to show for the first time and a very special moment! Once that is done I sew and stuff the body, arms and legs firmly. But it all comes together once the eyes and mouth are places and that little girl or boy looks back at me for the first time  - another magic moment in the whole process!
I set great store by the hair of my dolls and use two different fibers: DollyMo brushable mohair yarn and Wendsleydale locks. I must admit I simply adore the latter - they are just so soft, shiny and beautiful and I love to work with them and how they look on my dolls! Anyway - both fibers are crocheted into wigs and stitched to the head carefully.

And then clothing...never can get enough of searching for beautiful fabrics and wool. I could spend endless hours with combining different shades and materials or to try new patterns. So every doll is dressed individually with finest material like organic cotton, wool or jersey. It's just so much fun and so delightful!
I am currently making 30cm, 45cm and 55cm baby and play dolls. The babies are a little chubby and have curved legs and arms (like the little model on the pics), a bellybutton and a sweet little bum with dimples.  The play dolls have straighter legs and arms with defined knees and elbows. Due to choking hazard my dolls are not suitable for children under age 3.

Since dollmaking is a very intense and time-consuming process and takes several days I only do 1-2 dolls per month. I mainly work on a custom order basis but also enjoy to do RTGs and offer them in my etsy store occasionally.
